Frank Schaeffer Slams His Family Once Again : 2008-01-03

Frank Schaeffer, son of L'Abri founders Francis and Edith Schaeffer, is at it again. The author formerly known as "Franky" tells all about his sordid past in Crazy For God, a book that he claims, "charts my journey from being born the son of cultic religious leaders to the present."

As someone who enjoyed Francis Schaeffer's writings from my teen years, heard him speak in my 20s, and finally visited L'Abri in 2007, I was truly saddened to hear just how far Frank has gone with his attacks on evangelicalism. It's also sobering to think of how far children can stray from the path set by their parents, so in that sense it's a warning to us all not to neglect our children as Frank seems to perceive he was neglected.

Denver Seminary prof Douglas Groothuis responds in an article called "Author of 'Crazy' Escapes From Reason. Franky Plays Schaeffer Card, Again."

Thanks to the PyroManiacs for the heads up on the Groothuis review.

Thanx for the post Randy. I had already read about Schaeffer Jr.s latest book. What bothers me the most about this is the fact that no matter how many right things parents do when raising their kids, kids still have to decide for themselves, and they will still sometimes make very destructive choices. For a daddy who loves his 2 year old daughter and his 9 month old son, it's concerning.
